About STGS

What is STGS?

The Society of Tourist Guides (Singapore) was started in 2003 by a group of trainer guides with guiding experience of between 18 to 30 years.

The Society held its first International Tourist Guide Day event on 21 February 2004, with member guides offering free walking tours in Chinatown, Emerald Hill, Singapore River, Fort Canning and Emerald Hill. ITGD has been celebrated every since, past venues being Esplanade Park, Sentosa, Singapore Botanic Gardens and National Museum of Singapore. At the 2009 event held at National Library Building, more than 1,000 members of the public and tourists enjoyed free heritage walking tours conducted by volunteer guides.

The Society works closely with Singapore Tourism Board and other industry partners to promote the professionalism of tourist guides as tourism ambassadors of Singapore.
