VISION
Society of Tourist Guides (Singapore) aims to become a
respected voice in the tourism industry and is fully
committed to looking after the welfare of our members,
enabling guides to lead visitors and serve them with pride
and passion.
MISSION
We
pledge to uphold and maintain an ethical and professional
standard of conduct, to develop, improve and enhance tour
guiding services, developing training and educational
programmes. The Society acts as an intermediary between
tourist guides and Singapore Tourism Board and tourism
related industries. We encourage members to serve the
community by taking part in community service projects.
The
Society of Tourist Guides (Singapore) was started in 2003 by
a group of trainer guides with guiding experience of between
18 to 30 years. It had its first membership launch at the
auditorium of Singapore Tourism Court in January 2004. The
Society held the International Tourist Guide Day event on 21
February 2004 with its members offering free walking tours
in Chinatown, Emerald Hill, Singapore River, Fort Canning
and Emerald Hill. A similar event is held every year since
2004 with past venues being Esplanade Park, Sentosa,
Singapore Botanic Gardens and National Museum of Singapore.
In 2009 from the venue at National Library Building, its
members will offer three heritage walking tours highlighting
the cultural diversity and religious harmony evident in the
neighbourhood.
The
Society has since continued with its efforts to promote the
tourist guide as a professional service provider and a
tourist ambassador of Singapore. It works closely with
Singapore Tourism Board and other industry partners. |
