This October, take the opportunity to immerse yourself in Singapore’s Indian heritage and culture. It’s the best time of the year to visit as our Hindu friends make preparations to welcome Deepavali, commonly known as the Festival of Lights – a celebration of lights to marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

Come on a night walk with us to explore Little India and witness the streets wonderfully lit and decorated with colourful arches and stunning lights at Serangoon Road, Little India’s main commercial area. Admire the traditional and attractive old and new buildings from the colourful House of Tan Teng Niah centrally located in the middle of Little India to historical sites such as the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. Also learn the origins of the street names from our friendly tourist guides.

Feast your senses and wander through the various shops and stalls with their glittering gold and gems, exquisitely embroidered saris and gleaming golden oil lamps. Inhale the floral fragrance of marigolds, roses and jasmine, braided skillfully into lush floral garlands mingling with the perfume of sweet incense and the fragrance of Indian spices and Ayurvedic massage oils.

Don’t forget to explore the old and new traditional trade which is very much alive here especially at Tekka Market, a must-see addition to your Little India adventure.

If you have some time, savour the taste of the delicious Indian cuisine (Pss our tourist guides will treat you to some Kacang Putih and Indian spice crackers during the walk), and pick-up a souvenir from a colourful Indian sari to freshly grind spices for your kitchen and many more.
