The Society of Tourist Guides (Singapore) (STGS) and the Attractions, Resorts and Entertainment Union (AREU) announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen collaboration in supporting Tourist Guides (TGs) in Singapore through training, certification, professional development, and membership benefits on 21 Nov 2025.
This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in elevating the standards of tourist guiding in Singapore. Through the partnership, STGS and AREU will jointly organise skills training programmes, professional certification, and familiarisation tours that deepen knowledge and improve the practical competencies of member Tourist Guides. This collaboration will also help members access available training resources and funding support from the NTUC Training and Placement Ecosystem, including NTUC’s e2i and NTUC LearningHub.
Beyond skills enhancement, this partnership will also promote awareness of AREU and STGS joint membership benefits among TGs, strengthening support networks and promoting greater professional solidarity within the sector.
“This MOU reflects our commitment to ensuring that Singapore’s Tourist Guides are future-ready professionals equipped with updated knowledge, strong competencies, and access to wider support networks. Through this collaboration with AREU, we aim to broaden opportunities for our guides and reinforce the vital role they play as ambassadors of Singapore’s heritage, culture, and tourism sector.” - President of STGS, Wyman Poon
“This MOU reflects AREU’s and STGS’ shared commitment to enhancing work prospects for our tourist guides and advancing Singapore’s vision of being a world-class destination.” - President of AREU, Azman Bin Osman
“This is a momentous day for Singapore’s tourist guiding community. This partnership supports our Tourism 2040 vision to deliver exceptional visitor experiences. Here’s to shaping the Future of Guiding together.” - STB’s Executive Director of Travel Agents and Tourist Guides, Annie Chang
