About the Trainer

Clarence Chia

Licensed Tourist Guide &
Docent at the Singapore Peranakan Mansion Museum

Clarence Chia moves through Singapore attuned to the poetry of the island’s past. A devoted student of the nation’s history, he has spent years tracing the layered narratives that gave Singapore its distinctive character, where trade winds, migration, and memory converge into a richly textured cultural tapestry. His time as a docent at the National Museum of Singapore saw him leading visitors through galleries that chart the country’s evolution, illuminating the often-overlooked details that transform dates and events into lived experience.

As a Singapore Tourism Board licensed Tourist Guide, Clarence brings a thoughtful elegance to his craft. His tours unfold compelling stories, drawing visitors into Singapore’s story with particular affection for the vivid world of Peranakan culture.

As a docent at the Peranakan Mansion, Clarence’s connection with the beautifully decorated Peranakan museum becomes personal. A descendant of a Peranakan family, his voice finds its fullest expression, weaving together history, colour, and tradition. His intimate knowledge in the culture lends his storytelling with authenticity as he speaks of customs, rituals, and everyday objects, each imbued with purpose and meaning. With his passion, the Peranakan culture emerges not as a relic behind glass, but as a living, breathing inheritance.
